FROM CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE

WHAT ARE THE 13 GRAPES
OF THE APPELLATION
CHATEAUNEUF POPE ?

While the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the southern Rhône valley, is world-renowned for its powerful, age-worthy red wines, it also produces distinctive white wines of great finesse, veritable rising stars that brilliantly express this exceptional terroir. To learn more, we spoke with Laure Capeau of Domaine Berthet-Rayne, one of the appellation's flagship family estates.

Throughout the ages, Domaine Berthet-Rayne has distinguished itself by its mastery of a carefully selected palette of grape varieties, anchoring its heritage in the exceptional terroir of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Among the 13 grape varieties authorized in the appellation, the estate has chosen to focus on 8 of them: Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Syrah, Counoise, Clairette, Roussanne, and Bourboulenc. This thoughtful selection reflects the estate's commitment to creating wines that embody the very essence of Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
